Celebrate Innovative Teaching – Dominique Davis

Celebrate Innovative Teaching Spotlight: Dominique Davis

Prospect High School Math Teacher

The Challenge: Flip every lesson for three different sections of math in a single school year. (Warning: Do not attempt this challenge if you lack super powers.)

Explore Ms. Davis’s math web page here.

The Tools: Weebly (free web page maker), Screencastomatic (a web-based recording tool), and iPads for each student.

The Assignment: Instead of lecturing to students on a regular basis, Dominique assigns students to watch video lessons for their homework. Class time is devoted to practicing new skills with the help of the teacher and other students.

Teachers in a flipped classroom can also draw on short lessons created by colleagues around the country, as Dominique did to share a mnemonic device with her trigonometry students.

The Result: Smarter students, higher test scores, and hours of fabulous lessons available to all teachers or students with access to Youtube.

Watch the short video below for a peek at Dominique’s classroom in action.
